The Minotaur Project
This was an internal project done at Supergenius Studio to promote our work. We were a young fledgling studio at the time, but quickly became too busy to focus much attention on the project. This project was loosely themed around the story of Theseus and the Minotaur. The original minotaur is defined as being a monster, the offspring of Pasiphaë and the Cretan bull, that had the head of a bull on the body of a man: housed in the Cretan Labyrinth, it was fed on human flesh until Theseus killed it.
I really wanted to do something different (as we all do…) because the minotaur has been visually recreated so many times. I felt the best way to do this was to alter the story itself in the same way legends are; exaggeration and misinterpretation. What if the story of the Minotaur had been passed down through the ages incorrectly? What if it had the head of a bull and the body of, not a man but of men. The bodies of men; sacrificed flesh. Unintentionally, blood and flesh would flow down into the ground and the essence of those tortured souls would give life to a monstrous minotaur. Coming from the ground of this planet; this minotaur would be made out of stone, ice and flesh.
Yes, a twisted idea, but it was fun to play around with. Ultimately, this is why I love my job; not only can I manipulate things visually but conceptually as well.
